Leah and her brothers spoke with Senators in Washington DC on Capitol Hill to help increase funding for skin cancer education programs with the Melanoma Research Foundation. The surgeon general called out skin cancer as an epidemic, because it is on the rise by 200% in our country and yet it is one of the few preventable skin cancers. Leah spoke about the similar relationship of smoking and lung cancer to tanning and skin cancer and how educating the public saves lives.
We also helped to ban tanning salon use for minors. You increase your chances of melanoma by 75% with tanning bed use. Again, education is imperative. It will help save lives!
